+ QuestBridge College Prep Scholars Program: The QuestBridge College Prep Scholars Program gives outstanding low-income high school juniors an early advantage in college admissions. College Prep Scholars are uniquely prepared to gain admission and full scholarships to top-tier colleges through QuestBridge. The majority are also selected as Finalists for the National College Match. Being selected as a College Prep Scholar is a notable distinction that celebrates your achievements and gives you an early start in applying to college. Learn more and apply here. + Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Access & Inclusion: Three or six week academic programs created to give students a taste of Carnegie Mellon. Rising high school Juniors or Seniors can enroll in the following options: art/design, architecture, drama, and music. NO tuition, housing, or dining fees if you are selected for this program. Click here for more information. Students will need to submit an application, transcript, most recent PSAT or SAT scores, two recommendation letters, two essays, and a resume for consideration. Program Duration: June 30 - July 22, 2018 Apply By: March 3rd, 2018.

 

+ Stanford Summer Session: Stanford provides the opportunity for qualified high school students to enroll as visiting undergraduates, through Stanford Summer Session. Students ages 16-19 choose from more than 145 college courses in 30 academic departments, earning Stanford undergraduate course credit and an official Stanford University transcript. Students create their own course schedules and experience what life is like as an undergraduate student at Stanford. Program Duration: June 23rd-August 19th, 2018. Apply By: Round 1 deadline: January 15, 2018. Round 2 deadline: February 15, 2018. Final Round for International Students Requiring a Stanford-Sponsored I-20: March 23, 2018. + Centenary Summer Scholars: One week programs allow 8th-12th grade students to pick a “major” and an elective to explore areas of interest to them. Each course is designed to offer hands-on and project-based learning experiences with enthusiastic, talented teachers in small class sizes. Off-campus excursions and field trips, such as to NYC are included. “Majors” offered are: Veterinary Science (separated large and small animals), Forensic Science, Writer’s Workshop, Studio Arts, Fashion Design, Computer Game Design, Television Production, and Sustainability/Environmental Science. Potential elective courses are: Equestrian Center, Architecture and Design, Astronomy, Screenwriting, Public Speaking, SpyCraft, and Digital Photography and Editing. + Stanford University Summer Humanities Institute: At the Summer Humanities Institute, rising high school juniors and seniors explore the big questions at the heart of the humanities in seminars led by distinguished Stanford professors. Students spend the first two weeks intensively studying and researching a topic in history, philosophy, or literature, attending daily lectures by the faculty members, and participating in group discussions. During their third week, students work closely with their professors, graduate students, and writing mentors to produce original research projects.  Program Duration: Session 1: June 25–July 14, 2018, Session 2: July 17–August 4, 2018 Apply By: Early admissions: January 31, 2018, Regular admissions: February 28, 2018, Rolling admissions: After February 28 until the program is full

 

+ Denison Reynolds Young Writers Workshop: A great opportunity for rising juniors, seniors, and college-bound students with a passion for writing. In small workshops in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, beginning poets and writers get the chance to develop their talents and refine their skills. Daily cross-writing classes give exposure to all the genres, while group sessions with visiting writers and readings enrich the experience. There’s also time to write individually and to meet with faculty one on one. Participants also contribute poems and short prose pieces to the Workshop Anthology, ready to take home at the week’s end. + Drexel Summer Institutes: Drexel's summer academic programs are open to highly motivated high school students who wish to explore what a university-level program is all about. Workshops are led by Drexel faculty and utilize Drexel's labs, facilities, and the city of Philadelphia's many resources.

+ Duke University’s Summer College for High School Students: Four week, credit-bearing program at Duke University in Durham, NC. Immerse yourself in an international college experience by enrolling in this elite program designed to provide the academic and residential environment conducive for collegiate success.  Take three different classes, participate in research, and engage in residential activities! Build your skills by taking introductory courses (ex: Public Policy, History, Literature), as well as personal enrichment classes (ex: Chinese or Fine Arts). Eligible for current 10th and 11th graders. See for more details about the cost and application process: here. Program Duration: July 8th – August 3rd. + Harvard Summer School; Secondary School Program (SSP): Rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors have access to a wide variety of Harvard Summer School courses that are modeled after Freshmen Seminars at Harvard, including courses offered online. With current Harvard students serving as tutors and proctors, SSP provides high school students with opportunities to engage with challenging curriculum while connecting with peers from all over the world. Students will also be able to attend college preparatory events and will have full access to all Harvard facilities. Students apply here. Program Duration: June 21-August 9 Apply By: May 8, but operates on a first come, first served basis.

 

+ High School Summer Institutes (Washington University in St. Louis): Open to current high school students from across the country and around the world. The Summer Institutes offer you the ability to live on campus and meet new people, enjoy a variety of social opportunities, and prepare yourself for college success. The Summer Institutes allow you to explore careers and majors in medicine, writing, engineering (one of WUSTL’s best undergraduate programs), leadership, and more. Partial scholarships are available to students with financial need. Visit the website for more info. Program Duration: Varies by program. Apply By: April 1, 2018 (spots fill quickly).

 

+ High School Summer Scholars (Washington University in St. Louis): Open to students who have completed their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school, this program allows students to get a taste of college life through Washington University through a five week or eight week summer experience. Different program options allow you to design a summer experience that meets your needs and interests. The Residential option allows you to live on campus and take two college courses for credit, and the Scholar-Athlete option allows you to take one college course for credit and a non-credit Smart Fitness course. During the program, students have access to weekly academic support groups, college success seminars, and explore the cultural opportunities of the city. Scholarship aid to available to students with financial need. Visit the website for more info. Program Duration: June 10 - July 14, July 15 - Aug 17, or June 10 - Aug 4. Apply By: April 1st for scholarship consideration. Also note that most programs fill up by the April 1st deadline.

 

+ Indiana University of PA Summer Honors Program: Rising high school juniors and seniors are invited to spend 2 weeks on IUP’s campus to see what college life is all about. Students will take interdisciplinary honors courses in the morning, followed by an afternoon course on the topic of your choosing. This program creates a safe environment for you to explore college life. See here for further information. Program Duration: July 9th – 22nd. Apply By: May 1st.

 

+ Johns Hopkins University Summer Discovery: 2-5 weeks of academic and social activities. Summer Pre-College Programs at Johns Hopkins help you prepare for your transition from high school to college. Our pre-college programs combine academics, athletics, and activities to give high school students a great introduction to college life. Classes are held in engineering, writing, mathematics, and the arts & Sciences. See here for program information. Program Duration: Multiple sessions ranging from May 29th to August 3rd. Apply By: To qualify for financial aid, submit your application by March 16th, 2018.

 

+ Maine Media Workshop for Young Artists: Unique opportunity for students age 14-18 to immerse themselves in all aspects of photography, screenwriting, graphic design, 3D cinematography, acting, film, animation, and design. The work that you do at Maine Media will heighten your creativity, prepare you for college, and show you that there are absolutely no boundaries to what you can accomplish. + Regis College Summer School: A program for high school juniors and seniors where students can earn up to six college credits. Live on campus for two weeks and take classes in two of the hottest fields: health & sciences or communications. Participate in educational and fun field trips to Fenway Park and more. The program will also help you prepare for the college application process through informative workshops. Visit here for details. Program Duration: July 23rd – August 5th. + Susquehanna University Summer Programs: High school students looking for exceptional summer educational programs have a number of exciting and rewarding options at Susquehanna University. Each program allows attendees to get a taste of college life as they are immersed in week-long programs that will challenge, inspire and prepare them for the future. Program opportunities are available in the following areas: Wind Ensemble, Entrepreneurial Institute, Writer’s Workshop, Choral Institute. Fees vary depending on the program, but see here for more details.  Program Duration: July 1st – July 8th. Apply By: April 15th for a discount on cost.

+ Terp Young Scholars 2018: hosted by University of Maryland, Terp Young Scholars is a “great summer option for high schoolers who are looking for a challenging academic experience.” During Terp, students will: learn from UMD’s distinguished faculty, earn three university credits, explore new academic fields, and live and work with talented peers. Programs offered: Academy for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Anthropology (Forensic Anthropology), Architecture, Biological Sciences, Communication, Computer Science, Creative Writing, Economics, Engineering, Government and Politics, Journalism, Kinesiology, Philosophy, and Psychology. + Young Writers Workshop at Gettysburg College: Apply for this program if you are a rising sophomore, junior or senior in high school! This program will take place at Gettysburg College. Its purpose is to “an in-depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen. Modeled on Gettysburg College's highly successful gateway course, Introduction to Creative Writing, and taught by the college's own senior faculty in creative writing, Young Writers Workshop offers a constantly engaging, hands-on experience in how to write and how to talk about writing.” For more information, check out the website here. + Stanford University “Summer Institutes’: At the Summer Institutes, high school students engage in intensive, single-subject courses with instructors and peers who share their talents, passions, and interests. Coursework is tightly integrated with the social experience in academically themed residencies. Courses in areas ranging from business to biotechnology and cryptography to creative writing are customized to give students deep exposure and hands-on experience. There are over 50 courses from which to choose. +Princeton University Summer Journalism Program (PSJP): PSJP is an all-expenses-paid journalism and college preparation program held at Princeton University for high school juniors from low-income backgrounds. Students learn reporting skills from celebrated journalists, report and write their own newspaper, and are paired with a counselor who oversees their college admissions process during their senior year. Who can apply? High school juniors living in the United States with an unweighted GPA of 3.5/4.0, who have an interest in journalism. The custodial parent(s)/guardian(s)’ combined income (including child support received) must not exceed $45,000 annually (all criteria must be met). +PACAC Camp College: Camp College is an intensive three day/two night workshop designed for 60 rising high school seniors and juniors. Paired with mentors, participants will learn about all aspects of the college search and application process, experience life in the residence halls, learn about financial aid, standardized test exams and have a lot of fun! At the end of Camp College, we expect that the students will be equipped with the tools to navigate the college application process. Half of your time will be spent in the interdisciplinary Honors Core Course. Working with professors from literature, philosophy, history, biology, and the fine arts provides a unique opportunity for a synthesis of ideas.
