Engineering Summer Opportunities

+ QuestBridge College Prep Scholars Program: The QuestBridge College Prep Scholars Program gives outstanding low-income high school juniors an early advantage in college admissions. College Prep Scholars are uniquely prepared to gain admission and full scholarships to top-tier colleges through QuestBridge. The majority are also selected as Finalists for the National College Match. Being selected as a College Prep Scholar is a notable distinction that celebrates your achievements and gives you an early start in applying to college. Learn more and apply here. + 3D Object Modeling and Printing Camp at Gettysburg College: Spend 5 days at Gettysburg College, studying” 3D 3D object modeling and printing starting with the basics of a 3D printer. After learning the fundamentals, [you] will practice designing objects. For more information, visit the website. Program Duration: June 25th – June 30th, 2017. Apply By: May 1st, but applications are considered on a rolling basis.

 

+ Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math + Science: Open to rising juniors and seniors who show strong academic potential, as well as an interest in math or science. The curriculum for students will include non-credit courses designed and taught by members of the Carnegie Mellon faculty, outstanding teachers and graduate students carefully chosen because of their commitment to teaching and their ability to relate to 11th and 12th grade students. Upperclass students will serve as classroom assistants, tutors and mentors to program participants. Courses will include engineering and science projects, as well as SAT/college preparation and advanced math courses. The courses, housing, and meals are FREE, but students will need to pay for their books, supplies, and transportation. See this link for more details. Program Duration: July 1st - August 11th. Apply By: Decisions sent out on a rolling basis starting January 1st until March 3rd (the last day to apply).

 

+ Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Access & Inclusion: Three or six week academic programs created to give students a taste of Carnegie Mellon. Rising high school Juniors or Seniors can enroll in the following options: art/design, architecture, drama, and music. NO tuition, housing, or dining fees if you are selected for this program. Click here for more information. Students will need to submit an application, transcript, most recent PSAT or SAT scores, two recommendation letters, two essays, and a resume for consideration. Program Duration: June 30 - July 22, 2018 Apply By: March 3rd, 2018.

 

+ Cornell Summer College Program: 3 or 6 week programs available for current sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Take courses in the following areas: Architecture & Art, Business, College Success, Debate, Design & Fashion, Engineering, Hotel Management, Law & Government, Leadership, Medicine, Psychology, Research & Science, Social Change, Sustainability, and Veterinary Medicine. Application required. Details here. Program Duration: Between June 23rd - August 7th, 2018 (depending on your program of choice) Application opens mid-January. Apply by: March 9th for Research Apprenticeship in Biological Sciences program. All other programs by May 4th 2018. *Financial Aid Application/forms for partial scholarships due April 6th.

 

+ Dartmouth Bound Summer Program: The Dartmouth Bound STEM Program provides participants with insight into what life is like at Dartmouth, as well as information about the admissions and financial aid process. Program highlights include seminars, tours, and financial aid workshops. All students accepted into the program have their transportation costs covered. Eligibility: Participants must have a teacher or mentor recommend them for the program. For more information, see here.

+ Drexel Summer Institutes: Drexel's summer academic programs are open to highly motivated high school students who wish to explore what a university-level program is all about. Workshops are led by Drexel faculty and utilize Drexel's labs, facilities, and the city of Philadelphia's many resources.

+ High School Summer Institutes (Washington University in St. Louis): Open to current high school students from across the country and around the world. The Summer Institutes offer you the ability to live on campus and meet new people, enjoy a variety of social opportunities, and prepare yourself for college success. The Summer Institutes allow you to explore careers and majors in medicine, writing, engineering (one of WUSTL’s best undergraduate programs), leadership, and more. Partial scholarships are available to students with financial need. Visit the website for more info. Program Duration: Varies by program. Apply By: April 1, 2018 (spots fill quickly).

 

+ High School Summer Scholars (Washington University in St. Louis): Open to students who have completed their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school, this program allows students to get a taste of college life through Washington University through a five week or eight week summer experience. Different program options allow you to design a summer experience that meets your needs and interests. The Residential option allows you to live on campus and take two college courses for credit, and the Scholar-Athlete option allows you to take one college course for credit and a non-credit Smart Fitness course. During the program, students have access to weekly academic support groups, college success seminars, and explore the cultural opportunities of the city. Scholarship aid to available to students with financial need. Visit the website for more info. Program Duration: June 10 - July 14, July 15 - Aug 17, or June 10 - Aug 4. Apply By: April 1st for scholarship consideration. Also note that most programs fill up by the April 1st deadline.

 

+ Johns Hopkins University CTY (Center for Talented Youth): Three week academic and social camp at various sites both in the U.S. and abroad for 7-12th grade students. Try out an academic subject field that you want to learn more about before going to college! See website for more information: here. Program Duration: Session I: June 25th -July 14th OR Session II: July 2nd - July 21st. Apply By: April 8th.

 

+ Johns Hopkins University Summer Discovery: 2-5 weeks of academic and social activities. Summer Pre-College Programs at Johns Hopkins help you prepare for your transition from high school to college. Our pre-college programs combine academics, athletics, and activities to give high school students a great introduction to college life. Classes are held in engineering, writing, mathematics, and the arts & Sciences. See here for program information. Program Duration: Multiple sessions ranging from May 29th to August 3rd. Apply By: To qualify for financial aid, submit your application by March 16th, 2018.

 

+ Penn Engineering Summer Academy in Applied Science & Technology: 3-week program for rising 10th-12th graders from the University of Pennsylvania. Earn college credit in: Biotechnology, computer graphics, computer science, nanotechnology, robotics, or engineering complex networks. Students must have a minimum “B” average with preference for strong performance in math and science. For more information, see here. Program Duration: July 2nd - 22nd, 2017. Apply By: February 26th (priority application) or May April 24th (general deadline). 2018 application will be available in late January.

 

+ St. Francis University STEM Academies: A week-long programs designed to provide an opportunity for talented high school students between their sophomore/junior and junior/senior years to experience science, engineering, and computer science in action. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit while working in teams to complete a real world project and present their results. Programs are available in the following areas: Environmental Engineering, Gaming, Chemistry, Solar Power, and Exercise Physiology. Check here to remain updated on information. + Terp Young Scholars 2018: hosted by University of Maryland, Terp Young Scholars is a “great summer option for high schoolers who are looking for a challenging academic experience.” During Terp, students will: learn from UMD’s distinguished faculty, earn three university credits, explore new academic fields, and live and work with talented peers. Programs offered: Academy for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Anthropology (Forensic Anthropology), Architecture, Biological Sciences, Communication, Computer Science, Creative Writing, Economics, Engineering, Government and Politics, Journalism, Kinesiology, Philosophy, and Psychology. +PACAC Camp College: Camp College is an intensive three day/two night workshop designed for 60 rising high school seniors and juniors. Paired with mentors, participants will learn about all aspects of the college search and application process, experience life in the residence halls, learn about financial aid, standardized test exams and have a lot of fun! At the end of Camp College, we expect that the students will be equipped with the tools to navigate the college application process. +Summer Honors Program at the Cook Honors College: Talented rising high school juniors and seniors get a first-hand look at life on a college campus. Half of your time will be spent in the interdisciplinary Honors Core Course. Working with professors from literature, philosophy, history, biology, and the fine arts provides a unique opportunity for a synthesis of ideas. +summerFAB High School Architecture Program: Design-Build Program at Wentworth Institute of Technology - In this four-week summer design-build program, high school participants experience phases of an architectural project, from initial design concepts to building a full-scale construction on a site on campus. And get college credit for successfully completing the program! You may apply if you are a current high-school student entering grades 10 and above (current 9th graders through current 11th graders). +NYU High School Academy: Courses deliver rich content and hands-on experience that totally immerses you in the professional environment. Classroom learning is enhanced through guest lectures and field trips. Four summer sessions are available from which to choose. +HCC Advanced Manufacturing Summer Institute: The 2018 Summer Institute provides free college courses that will give students a foundation in Manufacturing Technology. This program will offer students an opportunity to earn three college credits during the eight week summer institute.  Classes include INT 101-Introduction to Industrial Technology and ELE 140-Introduction to Robotics.
